Gift cards, PayPal or Virtual Visa: which cash-out to pick

Gift cards, PayPal or Virtual Visa: which cash-out to pick

At $5 most reward apps offer the same three kinds of payout. They are not equal: fees, speed, and where you can spend the money all differ, and the best choice depends on your country. Here is how they compare on Bonusboy.

When a gift card is the best choice

Outside the United States, local-currency gift cards are in our catalogue but cannot be issued yet; they appear as "coming soon" in the app. Until that changes, PayPal, Virtual Visa or Razer Gold are the real choices.

When PayPal is the best choice

PayPal is the only option that becomes cash in your bank. The cost is the fee (5% or $0.25) and, outside the United States, PayPal's currency conversion. Your PayPal e-mail must be the same as your Bonusboy sign-in e-mail; that rule exists to stop stolen accounts from redirecting payouts. If PayPal is not available in your country, the option does not appear.

How to use a Virtual Visa

  1. After approval, open the withdrawal in the Wallet to see the card number, expiry date and CVV.
  2. Use it for online purchases priced in US dollars (or where the shop converts). Enter it like any Visa card; the name can be your own.
  3. Spend the full balance before the expiry date printed with the card; unused balance is lost after that.
  4. It cannot be used at an ATM and usually cannot be added to a wallet app; it is for online checkout.

A Virtual Visa is the no-fee choice in the United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Mexico and most of Europe and Latin America. It is not available in India or Indonesia.

What Razer Gold is

Razer Gold is a prepaid credit accepted by many game stores and publishers. It is issued in US dollars with no fee. If you do not buy games, skip it.

Before you choose

Quick answers

What is a Virtual Visa card?

A prepaid Visa card number, expiry date and security code delivered in the app instead of a plastic card. You use it like any Visa card for online purchases, in US dollars, until the balance is spent. It cannot be withdrawn as cash at an ATM.

Which option has no fee?

Gift cards, Virtual Visa and Razer Gold. PayPal carries a 5% or $0.25 fee that our provider charges for the transfer.

Can I change my mind after choosing?

Not after the code is issued. Until you enter the 6-digit confirmation code nothing is sent, so you can cancel at that point.
